The CQC
Who and what does the CQC (care quality commission)
What is the CQC and Why Does It Matter?
When choosing a domiciliary or live-in care provider, it’s important to know you’re in safe hands. That’s where the Care Quality Commission (CQC) comes in.
The CQC is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. Their job is to make sure care services – including those delivered in people’s homes – meet legal standards for safety, effectiveness, compassion, and quality.
What the CQC Does:
- Registers care providers to ensure they meet national standards before delivering services.
- Inspects services regularly, looking at how safe, caring, responsive, effective, and well-led they are.
- Publishes inspection reports and ratings to help you make informed decisions. Ratings are graded as:
- Outstanding
- Good
- Requires Improvement
- Inadequate
- Takes action where care falls short, protecting people using the service.
- Listens to feedback and concerns from the public and care staff.
How It Helps You Choose the Right Care:
Before choosing a home care or live-in care provider, we recommend visiting the CQC website to:
- Search for providers by name or location
- Read detailed inspection reports
- Check the latest ratings
A provider rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC gives you extra confidence that the service is safe, well-managed, and focused on high-quality care.

"I needed care for my mum after she returned home from an extended stay in hospital following a fall. She has dementia and the District Home Care team were super helpful dealing with this and assessing her needs. When it came to the care given, the team were absolutely brilliant. From an admin perspective the regular updates and communication was perfect. Really happy with the overall service.
If you are seeking trusted, flexible home care with a personal touch in the District Woking and local areas we are here to help.
